Problems with ATV snorkel?

by Alan
(USA)

I installed a snorkel for ATV mudding, and now my quad won't idle. Can you guys help?

Answer: Installing an ATV snorkel kit can change the air flow to the carb enough to require a jetting change.

But the most common cause of idle problems are air leaks somewhere between the carb and intake or the intake and cylinder head.

Try re-adjusting your idle speed screw first. If that doesn't help, then inspect the joints that connect from the air box to the carb and the carb to the intake manifold and head. Any loose connections can cause an air leak which will effect the way the engine idles.

Also make sure all the vent tubes from the carb are still attached and don't have any obstructions.

You can run a second snorkel for more air flow.

Thanks for all the tips. I learned a lot about running a snorkel from those comments.
